US Treasury sanctions networks supporting Iran’s Mahan Air, IRGC from India, China, Russia

The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on six entities and individuals across China, India, Russia, and Iran. These targets are accused of providing support to Iran's Mahan Air airline and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Washington alleges that Mahan Air has been instrumental in transporting IRGC-Quds Force personnel, weapons, and military equipment.

According to the Treasury, one sanctioned entity, an IRGC-affiliated front company, allegedly gathered intelligence on the locations of U.S. and Israeli military equipment. This company also reportedly supported Iranian military targeting efforts during the ongoing conflict. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that those providing financial, logistical, or commercial backing to the IRGC or Mahan Air are actively "helping sustain a terrorist enterprise." He pledged continued economic pressure on Tehran.

These new sanctions follow a similar action on Wednesday, where the U.S. Treasury targeted eight tankers and 10 entities. The Treasury also highlighted that over 100 vessels have been sanctioned by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) since January. Several of the targeted entities are reportedly involved in an IRGC-backed extortion scheme. This scheme allegedly forces ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz to purchase mandatory maritime "insurance," with the collected funds financing the regime's activities.
