USA to Measure Soldiers' Testosterone Levels

The U.S. military is set to introduce a new screening program targeting testosterone deficiency among its personnel. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that American soldiers aged 30 and above will undergo annual screenings as part of their regular health assessments.

Hegseth stated in a video on X that the program aims to ensure soldiers have the "right testosterone levels to perform optimally." He referred to the soldiers as "warfighters" and emphasized that the initiative is not about artificial enhancement but about restoring and optimizing natural capabilities to sustain readiness.

The screenings will be a mandatory part of the annual health evaluation for soldiers over 30. However, any recommended treatment, such as testosterone replacement therapy, will be entirely voluntary. Soldiers younger than 30 will also have the option to be tested if they wish.

While Hegseth used gender-neutral terms like "warfighters" in his announcement, the specific inclusion of women in the screening and voluntary treatment program was not detailed. The Pentagon has stated it has no further comment beyond the secretary's video. The initiative comes as discussions around health and performance optimization within the military continue.
