Used Gasoline Cars Get Younger in Hungary as Electric Vehicles Dominate Price Rankings

The Hungarian used car market is showing a trend towards younger gasoline vehicles, contrasting with electric cars which maintain the highest price tags. Among the most popular models, the Kia Ceed boasts the youngest average age at around 9 years, while the Suzuki Swift represents the oldest, with an average age exceeding 17 years.

Over the short term, the average age of the top ten most popular car brands has decreased. However, looking at longer periods, a slow increase in average age is still observable. Opel, Renault, and Volkswagen currently offer the oldest cars, with models advertised in May averaging between 12.6 and 13.5 years. Ford and Mercedes-Benz follow with an average age of around 12 years, while Audi and Toyota have an average age between 11.2 and 11.8 years. BMW averages about 11 years, Škoda around 10 years, and the aforementioned Kia Ceed approximately 9.2 years.

The Toyota Corolla has seen the most significant rejuvenation, with the average age of its advertised models decreasing by 21.7 percent over the past year. This indicates a shift in the market, with newer models of popular cars becoming more available.

In terms of pricing, the average asking price for the top 10 most frequently advertised car models in Hungary reached 5.76 million forints in May, with most of these models experiencing price increases. The Audi A6 commanded the highest average price at 6.7 million forints, whereas the Suzuki Swift remains the most affordable, priced below two million forints. Despite its low price point, the Suzuki Swift has set a record for the largest price increase, becoming nearly 17 percent more expensive over the past year.
