Uzbekistan Launches Over $4.2 Billion in New Projects Ahead of Independence Day

Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev marked the upcoming 35th anniversary of the nation's independence by launching 163 new facilities, representing an investment exceeding $4.2 billion. The ceremony celebrated the completion of 72 large-scale industrial and service projects, complemented by 91 social infrastructure facilities.

These newly commissioned projects are projected to generate approximately 15,000 jobs and contribute an additional 1 trillion soums (around $84.89 million) annually to the state budget. Addressing investors and business leaders, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the significance of their contributions, stating, "Every investment you make strengthens the foundation of Uzbekistan’s future. Every job you create contributes to the well-being of families."

The diverse range of projects spans key economic sectors, including energy, agriculture, food processing, metallurgy, automotive manufacturing, electrical engineering, construction materials, mining, textiles, and light industry. Notably, Syrdarya region saw the commissioning of power generation facilities with a combined capacity of 1,573 MW, while Karakalpakstan launched a 200 MW wind power plant and a 100 MW energy storage system. New energy projects in Navoi region are expected to produce 657 million kWh of electricity annually.

In the social sphere, the launch included 36 kindergartens, 43 schools, seven universities, and three hospitals. Among the educational highlights is the new campus of New Uzbekistan University in New Tashkent, designed to accommodate 7,000 students. This university has partnered with Harvard University to establish a School of Rectors and plans an educational hub with the University of Oxford for civil servant development. An Institute of Artificial Intelligence is set to open on October 1. Additionally, a new National Library capable of holding over 200,000 books and a significant campus for the University of Economics and Pedagogy were also inaugurated.
