Uzbekistan Lifts One-Vehicle-Per-Year Import Limit for Personal Use

Uzbekistan has abolished a long-standing rule that capped personal vehicle imports at one per year for individuals and companies. This restriction, implemented in 2017, was removed via a presidential decree signed on June 4, signaling a significant shift in import policy.

The decree, focused on enhancing governance and streamlining public services within the construction sector, amends the General Technical Regulation on the safety of wheeled vehicles entering the market. This regulation, also established in 2017, mandates that vehicles meet specific technical standards before being sold in Uzbekistan.

For vehicles imported by individuals for their own use, compliance is confirmed through a certificate of conformity. Other vehicles require type approval for the vehicle or chassis. The previous limitation meant that individuals could only import a single vehicle for private use within any given calendar year.
