Vandals Destroy Gnomes from Gnome Path in Nieuwkerken; Neighborhood Seeks New Specimens

The beloved 'Kabouterwegel' (Gnome Path) in Nieuwkerken, a cherished local attraction for families, has fallen victim to senseless vandalism. Gnomes and other mythical figures that once delighted children have been destroyed and discarded in the nearby woods, leaving the path in a state of disarray. Residents Carine Vergauwen and Patrick Jans expressed their sadness, noting that some figures are beyond repair, and even entire sets, like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, have vanished. The damage has been a blow to the community, especially for businesses like manege La Rosteehoeve, whose visitors often enjoy a stroll along the path. However, the spirit of Nieuwkerken remains unbroken. Determined neighbors are already mobilizing to gather new gnome figures, aiming to restore the path to its former charm.
