Vehicle swept away in flash flood: 3 bodies found in Pakistan's Khyber

A vehicle carrying Afghan families returning to their neighboring country was swept away by a flash flood in Pakistan's Khyber district on Monday, according to Rescue 1122. Three bodies have been recovered so far, and a search for others in the vehicle is ongoing.

The emergency service reported that the vehicle was swept away near Sultan Khel Market. Rescue teams and local residents assisted in recovering the bodies of a woman and a man in Jamrud town, while a child's body was found in the Parang Sang area.

In a separate incident in Mardan's Kalu Dheri village, the roof of a room collapsed, killing two children. Their mother and 14-year-old sister were injured and taken to Mardan Medical Complex Hospital.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department had predicted widespread rains across the country, including Khyber and Mardan, between July 19 and July 23. In response, Shah Fahad, Rescue 1122's director general in Khyber, chaired an emergency meeting and directed all district emergency officers to remain on high alert. Rescue personnel, vehicles, boats, and specialized equipment have been deployed, and temporary water rescue points have been established. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from waterways, and contact the 1122 helpline for emergencies. Awareness campaigns about weather risks are also underway.

The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) has also established a control room and placed operational teams on high alert. Pesco advises consumers to stay away from electrical installations during the rains.
