Velásquez urges opposition to focus on ending 'tyranny' amid Figuera's Venezuela visit

Venezuelan politician Andrés Velásquez stressed the importance of keeping the ultimate goal in sight: definitively ending the country's "tyranny" and restoring democracy and freedom. His remarks came as opposition deputy Dinorah Figuera returned to Venezuela and met with National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez, sparking debate.

Velásquez reaffirmed his support for the "Manifiesto de Panamá," a roadmap for democratic transition and guaranteed presidential elections, and confirmed María Corina Machado's leadership within the opposition. He also backed the U.S. three-step plan for Venezuela but emphasized the need for concrete dates for presidential elections, stating they cannot be postponed indefinitely.

Figuera's visit and her meeting with Rodríguez followed the creation of a technical and political working group aimed at strengthening institutions and building a democratic transition path.
