Velez, Independiente lead Zone A; Argentinos Juniors, Barracas Central top Zone B in Argentina's Clausura Tournament

The 2026 Clausura Tournament in Argentina is underway, with the second matchday partially concluded. Several teams have secured perfect records, leading their respective groups after two games.

In Zone A, Velez Sarsfield claimed a significant 3-1 victory over Talleres in Córdoba, placing them at the top of the standings. Independiente also secured a home win, defeating Newell's Old Boys 1-0. Defensa y Justicia sits in second place in Zone A with four points, following their 2-1 win against Deportivo Riestra.

Zone B sees Argentinos Juniors and Barracas Central leading the pack. Argentinos Juniors comfortably beat Estudiantes de Río Cuarto 3-0, while Barracas Central edged out Aldosivi de Mar del Plata 1-0. Three teams are currently tied with four points in Zone B: Independiente Rivadavia, who beat Huracán 2-1; Racing, who drew 0-0 with Rosario Central; and Atlético Tucumán, who defeated Central Córdoba 2-0.

The second matchday will conclude next week, with three postponed games involving Boca Juniors, Tigre, and Lanús, who were participating in the Copa Sudamericana 2026. Boca will host Estudiantes de La Plata on August 5th, Tigre will play Belgrano on the same day, and Lanús will visit Unión de Santa Fe on August 6th. The tournament features 30 teams divided into two groups of 15, with the top eight from each group advancing to the playoffs.
