Venezuela activates 8 public hospitals, 12 private clinics in Caracas for earthquake emergency

Venezuela's public health system is mobilized to address the emergency following two powerful earthquakes, each exceeding magnitude 7, that struck the country. Vice President Isabel Iturria reported that the coastal state of La Guaira has sustained the most significant damage and is experiencing a high number of injured individuals.

The state of La Guaira is the entity that registers the greatest affectation and concentrates a significant number of injured people.

In response, authorities are transferring patients to hospitals in Caracas. While no national hospitals collapsed irreparably, the Hospital de Coche in the capital sustained structural damage and is being evacuated as a precautionary measure. Patients are being relocated to other Caracas medical centers.

Health professionals have voluntarily joined the contingency efforts, and Iturria urged more medical personnel to report to their usual centers to bolster response capacity. The government also issued an urgent appeal for blood donations to replenish reserves depleted by the emergency.

No hospital suffered irreparable collapses nationwide.

Public health officials confirmed the activation of all public health centers nationwide, with a particular focus on the Capital District and the states of La Guaira, Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo, and Falcón. In coordination with the Association of Private Clinics of the Capital Region, 12 private facilities in Greater Caracas have also been made available for triage, evaluation, and hospitalization.
