Venezuela earthquake death toll rises to 1,430

The death toll from the powerful twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on Wednesday has climbed to 1,430, with an additional 3,238 people injured, National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez announced Saturday.

"At this hour, we are counting that 1,430 brothers and sisters have died, unfortunately, they have lost their lives," Rodríguez stated in a broadcast on the state channel VTV. He also reported 3,142 families displaced by the disaster. The coastal state of La Guaira, north of Caracas, has been the hardest hit, with authorities assisting 73,736 families in the region.

Rescue and relief operations are underway, involving over 30,000 military personnel, police, rescuers, and medical staff. International assistance is also arriving, with 16 doctors from Curaçao reaching the country. Authorities are urging citizens to avoid traveling to La Guaira to facilitate the movement of heavy machinery for debris removal and the transport of the injured.

Essential supplies, including 2,600 tons of food and potable water, have been distributed to affected families in La Guaira. Venezuela has welcomed over 1,600 rescuers, and thousands of volunteers are participating in search and rescue efforts, as well as organizing the collection and delivery of donations.
