Venezuela earthquake toll reaches 920, foreign nationals among dead

The death toll from twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on Wednesday has climbed to 920, with foreign nationals confirmed among the deceased. The disaster has impacted multiple international communities residing in the South American nation.

Portugal's foreign ministry reported 15 victims of Portuguese nationality or descent. Seven Chinese nationals were confirmed dead, according to Beijing's state broadcaster CCTV, citing incomplete figures from the embassy in Caracas. The embassy urged Chinese citizens in Venezuela to take precautions against aftershocks and other secondary disasters.

Spain announced that at least five of its citizens had died and 119 were missing. Brazil's foreign ministry confirmed two Brazilian citizens died, and the government is providing consular assistance to their relatives. Rome's foreign ministry stated that an Italian-Venezuelan dual citizen, a man in his mid-50s born in Caracas, was killed when a building collapsed in the hardest-hit region of La Guaira.
