Venezuela's Constitutional Bloc Demands Release of All Political Prisoners

Venezuela's Constitutional Bloc has issued a strong statement demanding the immediate and unrestricted release of all political prisoners. The organization, comprised of magistrates, academics, jurists, and bar association presidents, expressed its rejection of the deferred release of individuals previously agreed upon by the national government and opposition representatives within the framework of the Transition Commission.

The Constitutional Bloc of Venezuela issued a statement rejecting the deferral of the release of political prisoners.

The bloc issued three specific requests to the negotiators and the international community. Firstly, they urged the Transition Commission to facilitate the unconditional freedom of political prisoners. Secondly, they called for the inclusion of victims of arbitrary detention stemming from political vendettas, personal disputes, or economic interests. Thirdly, the group demanded the restitution of confiscated properties and the lifting of precautionary measures against citizens who have been released.

The organization demanded an immediate response on this issue and denounced the persistent constitutional irregularities in the exercise of the Executive Power.

Furthermore, the Constitutional Bloc highlighted concerns regarding the legitimacy of the current executive leadership, pointing out that the constitutional deadline for calling elections following Nicolás Maduro's absence had passed. They also stressed that the renewal of Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) magistrates must adhere to the National Constitution. The organization emphasized that the release of political prisoners cannot be delayed by judicial processes.

In the first place, it demanded that the Transition Commission manage the unrestricted freedom of political prisoners.

The bloc also called upon the international community to closely monitor the ongoing negotiations and to exert pressure for an end to human rights violations within the country. They specifically requested an urgent verification of the physical and health status of detained individuals, underscoring the precarious conditions many likely face.
