Venezuelan Banks to Close for Ascension Holiday; Digital Services Remain Active

As per the official calendar of non-working days established by the Superintendency of Banking Sector Institutions (Sudeban), the Venezuelan financial system will observe a closure of its physical branches on Monday, May 18, 2026. This date marks the religious holiday of the 'Ascension of the Lord.' Consequently, all bank offices, internal teller windows, and agencies across the country will suspend public-facing services and routine in-person transactions.

Despite the physical closures, El Nacional wishes to inform its readers that essential banking operations will continue uninterrupted through digital and electronic channels. This includes online banking platforms, mobile applications, interbank transfers, electronic payments, and the mobile payment system. Additionally, automated teller machines (ATMs) will remain available for withdrawals, balance inquiries, and other basic transactions, subject to the specific services offered by each financial institution.

While some banks might exceptionally operate external teller windows in high-traffic areas like shopping centers, this is not a universal practice and depends on individual bank policies. El Nacional advises its readership to plan their financial activities in advance, particularly those involving scheduled payments or significant transfers that might require in-person validation. Consulting individual bank websites for updated information on operating branches and alternative services during holidays is also recommended.
