Venezuelan committee reports release of former captain Ebro Leonardo Delgado after nearly four years detained

Ebro Leonardo Delgado Briceño, a retired captain in the Venezuelan Army and former security manager at the Punta Cardón refinery, has been released from the El Rodeo I penitentiary in Miranda state, the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners (Clippve) reported Monday.

Delgado Briceño was arrested in 2022 and faced charges of terrorism, conspiracy, and criminal association. Clippve announced his release on social media, celebrating his reunion with family after his period of detention.

During his imprisonment, Delgado Briceño's family alleged irregularities in his judicial process, including delays, alleged cruel and inhuman treatment, and his exclusion from an amnesty law. His case has been identified by Clippve as a political detention.

While celebrating this release, Clippve reiterated its call for a review of the situations of other individuals still detained in various prisons across Venezuela, including Ramo Verde, Yare, La Crisálida, and the National Institute for Women's Guidance (INOF). The organization stressed the need for progress in addressing these cases.

The release of Delgado Briceño occurs against a backdrop of renewed calls from human rights organizations regarding detention conditions at El Rodeo I, where alleged violations against political prisoners have recently been reported.
