Venezuelan Red Cross Delivers Over 15,600 Health Services Two Months After Earthquakes

Two months after the earthquakes on June 24, the Venezuelan Red Cross has delivered a substantial response, providing 15,600 medical attentions and distributing 203,000 liters of potable water across La Guaira, Caracas, Miranda, and Falcón states. Medical consultations are primarily offered at the makeshift Hospital Jorge García Carneiro in Macuto and the Padre Machado square in Maiquetía, both in La Guaira state. The organization also conducts home visits in La Guaira and Caracas to offer medical evaluations and guidance to caregivers, referring patients to specialized centers when necessary.

The health response extends to mental health and psychosocial support (Smaps), with 4,211 individual sessions provided to individuals experiencing distress, grief, and uncertainty following the tremors. Access to safe water is another key component of the Red Cross's actions; teams have distributed over 203,000 liters of water and provided water, sanitation, and hygiene (Wash) assistance to 10,150 people.

In total, 490 activities have been carried out in more than 30 localities. La Guaira state has seen a significant portion of the deployment due to the seismic impact, but the Capital District, Miranda, and Falcón states have also received services targeting vulnerable populations. This expansion aims to assist individuals whose difficult conditions might worsen post-emergency, demonstrating the Red Cross's adaptive approach to identified needs.

Beyond immediate health and water services, the organization has distributed hygiene kits and essential supplies to 3,077 families, benefiting over 12,000 people based on an average of four members per household. This extensive operation is sustained by 1,490 active volunteers from various Venezuelan Red Cross branches who participate in health, Smaps, and Wash initiatives. The earthquake response operation is planned for 24 months, with continuous needs assessments to adjust actions and assistance according to the changing conditions of affected families throughout the emergency stages.
