Venezuelan Tennis Federation suspends activities following earthquake impact

The Venezuelan Tennis Federation (FVT) has announced a pause in all its activities, citing the national emergency caused by recent strong earthquakes. The federation's decision, dated Sunday, June 28, follows the government's announcement extending school suspensions for another week.

In a statement, the FVT emphasized that the measure is a response to the national contingency and that its absolute priority is ensuring the safety and integrity of its athletes, coaches, technical staff, referees, and the entire tennis community.

Beyond suspending tournaments, the FVT has also mobilized to assist in the aftermath of the seismic events. The organization has designated its headquarters in Santa Rosa de Lima, Baruta municipality, Miranda state, as a collection center for aid. Additionally, the federation has joined efforts to search for Andrés Krauter, a member of the tennis discipline in Venezuela.

According to National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez, the earthquake emergency has resulted in 1,450 deaths, 3,150 injuries, and 12,721 affected families. While seven states were impacted, La Guaira remains the most devastated. Authorities continue rescue operations and urge the public to avoid traveling to the affected zone.
