Venezuelans in Netherlands demand release of political prisoners

A group of Venezuelans residing in the Netherlands staged a protest at Utrecht Central Station on Saturday, demanding the immediate release of political prisoners in Venezuela.

The demonstration, documented through photographs shared on X by political scientist Rafael Santiago, featured participants holding a Venezuelan flag alongside portraits of detained individuals. Placards bearing messages calling for liberation and justice were prominently displayed.

Protesters also denounced the human rights violations occurring within Venezuela and implored the international community to remain attentive to the plight of Venezuelan political prisoners. Images of missing persons were also included on some of the signs.

One demonstrator voiced the collective solidarity of those present with the families of the detainees. "The city of Utrecht, the city of the defense of human rights. Support for all the families of all the civilian and military political prisoners of Venezuela. We want freedom for all, full freedom," she stated.

The protest highlighted the ongoing concerns of the Venezuelan diaspora regarding the political situation and human rights in their home country, seeking to draw international attention and support for the release of those imprisoned for their political beliefs.
