Venice Film Festival: a stage for glamour, demands, and the world of cinema

Venice once again turned its red carpet into a showcase for glamour, film premieres, and public messages. Mexican actor and director Gael García Bernal arrived before the screening of Hombre al agua, his third film as a director, shot between Cuba and Mexico. The cast includes Natalia Oreiro and Ricky Martin, who also appeared before the festival cameras.

Italian actor and director Greta Scarano, part of the cast of The Echo Chamber, wore a red symbol on her face. The gesture formed part of an Italian campaign against gender-based violence. Susan Sarandon arrived by water taxi for the presentation of the same film, one of the titles in the festival’s official competition.

Mexican actor Esmeralda Pimentel chose a white, straight-cut dress with feathers at the bottom for the presentation of Hombre al agua. South Korean actor Cho Yeo-jeong, known for her role in Parasite, appeared in a striking outfit ahead of Possible Love, a film by Lee Chang-dong that marks the director’s return to Venice after eight years.

The festival’s parade also included Alicia Vikander, photographed with her partner Michael Fassbender, and Brazilian actor and model Débora Nascimento, who is part of Hombre al agua’s artistic cast. Vikander, described by the article as a veteran of major festival red carpets, appeared ahead of the screening of The Echo Chamber.

German director Wim Wenders presented From Inside Out: The Architecture of Peter Zumthor out of competition. The film explores several works by the Swiss architect in 3D. Ricky Martin, who also acts in García Bernal’s film and co-produced it, joined the festival’s red-carpet lineup.
