Veritas University Crowned Champions at Inaugural NBA REC University Tournament

Veritas University has emerged as the champion of the inaugural NBA REC University Tournament, securing a hard-fought 41-36 victory over the University of Abuja in the final match. The tournament, held at the University of Lagos Sports Center, brought together eight university teams from various regions of Nigeria.

The competitive two-day event saw teams including the University of Lagos, Lagos State University of Education, Veritas University, University of Ibadan, Lagos State University, Lead City University, Afe Babalola University, and the University of Abuja battle for the title. After advancing through group stages, Veritas University, Afe Babalola University, the University of Abuja, and the University of Lagos reached the semi-finals. Veritas University ultimately triumphed over the University of Abuja in the championship game, while the University of Lagos secured third place.

Beyond the on-court action, the tournament featured halftime entertainment, including fan giveaways, dance performances, and musical acts by Nigerian artists Taves and Samad. This created an engaging atmosphere for fans, extending the event's appeal. Anthony Chioke of Afe Babalola University was recognized as the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP).

The NBA REC platform is designed for players aged 18 and older, aiming to enhance recreational basketball experiences at the university and community levels.
