Veteran Vancouver police officer and KidsPlay founder charged with fraud and theft

A veteran Vancouver police officer known for founding the KidsPlay Foundation has been arrested and charged with multiple criminal offences.

Const. Kal Dosanjh was arrested Thursday in Surrey. He faces four counts of fraud over $5,000, four counts of theft over $5,000 and one count of breach of trust by a public officer. Police allege the offences took place between 2017 and 2025.

Sarabjit Singh Gill, who is also charged, faces three counts of fraud over $5,000 and three counts of theft over $5,000. Police executed a search warrant at the KidsPlay Foundation’s offices on Thursday.

Dosanjh has served with the Vancouver Police Department for decades and is widely known for his work with the Surrey-based charity. Through his lawyer, he said he is innocent and committed no crimes.

Vancouver police said the charges followed a covert investigation that lasted about two and a half years. Police scheduled a news conference for Friday morning to provide further details.
