Vice President accuses Government of premature ratification move on Bougainville

Bougainville's Vice President Ezekiel Masatt has accused the National Government of attempting to rush the ratification of a committee report, calling the move "foolish and premature." Masatt, who also oversees the Bougainville Independence Mission, stated that certain Members of Parliament spoke during a recent session with a lack of understanding regarding the ongoing Melanesian Agreement talks.

Masatt asserted that these parliamentarians were not privy to the agreed-upon outcomes of the discussions. He believes their participation in the session, which he characterized as an attempt to turn a routine committee report review into a ratification proceeding, was based on ignorance.
