Vicentico, Abel Pintos to Open Tango BA Festival and World 2026

Buenos Aires is set to celebrate the enduring passion of tango with the opening of the Tango BA Festival and World 2026 on August 19. The event promises a vibrant showcase of the genre, featuring a star-studded lineup that includes acclaimed artists Vicentico and Abel Pintos, alongside the Camerata Argentina and the Orquesta de Tango de Buenos Aires.

Running until September 2, the festival will transform the city into a hub for tango enthusiasts, with nearly two weeks of performances. Approximately 2000 artists are expected to participate across 23 different venues. The program boasts a diverse array of talent, from established orchestras like the Sexteto Mayor and the Orquesta Típica Fernández Fierro to renowned dancers such as Ana María Stekelman and Milena Plebs, ensuring a rich tapestry of tango expression.

Artistic director Gustavo Mozzi highlighted the festival's role in reflecting and projecting the genre's dynamism. "Tango Buenos Aires Festival y Mundial reflects and projects the vitality of a genre that reinvents itself every day," Mozzi stated. He emphasized the flourishing scene, marked by multiplying orchestras, new poetic expressions, dazzling choreography, and the emergence of new generations of dancers and training projects.

The festival will delve into contemporary aesthetics while honoring tradition, aiming to attract both seasoned aficionados and newcomers drawn to the celebratory atmosphere. A significant highlight will be the World Tango Dance Championship, where dancers will compete in Pista (stage) and Escenario (showcase) categories. The crowning of the champions will take place over two grand galas at the Gran Rex theater on September 1 and 2, respectively.

La Usina del Arte will serve as the festival's central venue, hosting the opening night's performances. The event underscores tango's continuous evolution, celebrating its rich history while embracing its future through innovative artistic endeavors and a grand popular celebration.
