The Nigerian film industry mourned the loss of actor Alexx Ekubo, who was laid to rest in Arochukwu, Abia State, on Thursday. Family, friends, and numerous colleagues from Nollywood gathered to pay their final respects to the 40-year-old actor, who died on May 11, 2026, after a struggle with metastatic kidney cancer.

A funeral service and reception were held at the Mary Slessor School Field in Amanagwu Village, preceding the interment at his family home. Videos circulating from the service captured emotional moments as Ekubo's casket arrived, drawing tears from attendees. The burial was attended by a constellation of stars and prominent figures, including IK Ogbonna, Mike Godson, AY Makun, Ini Edo, Nancy Isime, Bimbo Ademoye, and business mogul Obi Cubana.

The funeral proceedings were extensive, beginning on June 10 in Lagos with a service of songs where tributes poured in. A wake-keep ceremony also took place on Wednesday, June 17, at the family residence. Ekubo's passing marks a significant loss to the Nigerian entertainment scene, with tributes highlighting his contributions and the void he leaves behind.
