Vienna Aquarium Celebrates Birth of Three Endangered Eagle Rays

Three young eagle rays named Niklas, Bobby and Freywilla are giving Vienna’s Haus des Meeres reason to celebrate.

The aquarium announced that it had successfully bred the common eagle ray, a species threatened with extinction despite its ordinary-sounding name. The three young animals are healthy and developing well, according to the zoo.

Common eagle rays are native to the eastern Atlantic, from the British Isles to South Africa, as well as the Mediterranean. Their successful breeding at the Vienna facility represents a breeding achievement for the institution.
