Vietnam Farmers' Union Opens 9th Congress, Eyes Development Goals

The Vietnam Farmers' Union convened its 9th Congress from June 7-8, setting a theme of "Unity – Democracy – Breakthrough – Cooperation – Development" for its 2026-2031 term.

The congress serves as a crucial platform to review the union's activities and the farmer movement's progress since the 8th Congress in 2023. It will also chart the course for the next five years, outlining objectives, tasks, and solutions in line with the spirit of the National Fatherland Front of Vietnam's resolutions.

A key aspiration of the congress is to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship among farmers, reinforcing their role not just as producers but as central figures in modern agricultural development and rural construction.

According to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, the period since the 8th Congress has seen significant contributions to the country's socio-economic development. The union has guided the establishment of 1,028 new agricultural cooperatives and 5,225 farmer groups, exceeding planned targets by substantial margins and drawing nearly 1.3 million farming households into professional production models.

During its first day, the congress agenda included a review of the 8th Central Committee's performance, proposals for amending the Union's charter, and the election of the 9th Central Committee members.
