Vietnam Labor Union Elects 135 Executive Committee Members for New Term

The 14th National Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) has elected 135 members to its Executive Committee, which will serve for the 2026-2031 term. This decision was made following discussions and a vote on the personnel plan during the congress held on June 4.

Nguyen Anh Tuan, Chairman of the VGCL, presented the personnel plan, emphasizing that the preparation process ensured democracy, transparency, and compliance with regulations from the Party, the VGCL Charter, and guidelines from the Presidium. The committee members were selected based on strict criteria regarding qualifications, capabilities, prestige, unity, and representation.

Personnel preparation ensures democracy, transparency, and adherence to the procedures and regulations of the Party, the Charter of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and the guidance of the Presidium of the VGCL.

The newly formed Executive Committee for the 14th term will have 145 members, a reduction of 32 compared to the 177 members in the 13th term. Currently, 10 positions remain vacant and are expected to be filled during the term as suitable candidates emerge. The election aimed for a balanced representation across different levels of the union, economic sectors, professions, and localities, while also ensuring appropriate proportions of female and ethnic minority officials.

Out of 150 nominated candidates, 135 were elected, with a surplus of over 11% on the ballot, adhering to the VGCL Charter's requirements. The congress focused on establishing a committee that embodies the required political qualities, ethical standards, leadership capabilities, and prestige necessary to meet the evolving demands of the labor movement and union activities in Vietnam.

The Executive Committee of the 14th term must meet the standards and conditions stipulated by the Party; possess the required qualifications, capacity, and prestige; be united in will and action; be outstanding in intellect; and have political integrity, ethics, lifestyle, capability, and reputation to meet the demands of the workers' movement and union activities in the new situation.
