Vietnam PM Orders Probe into Tourist Boat Capsize Killing 15 Indian Tourists

Vietnam's Prime Minister Le Minh Hun has issued an urgent directive for a thorough investigation into a tragic tourist boat capsize near Phu Quoc Island, which resulted in the deaths of 15 Indian nationals. The incident occurred on Saturday, prompting immediate action from central and local authorities.

The Prime Minister's directive emphasizes the prioritization of search and rescue operations, providing assistance to the victims and their families, and uncovering the cause of the accident. The Consulate General of Vietnam in Mumbai shared a statement expressing the Vietnamese authorities' deepest sympathies over the tragedy.

On behalf of the Vietnamese authorities, we wish to express our deepest sympathies regarding the recent capsizing of a tourist boat carrying Indian nationals in Phu Quoc. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.

Authorities are mobilizing all necessary medical resources to treat the injured and minimize further loss of life and property. The directive also calls for a comprehensive assessment of the incident to identify shortcomings and determine both direct and indirect causes. Strict legal action will be taken against any individuals or organizations found to have violated regulations contributing to the accident.

Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs will coordinate with the Indian Embassy in Vietnam to facilitate consular assistance and ensure the protection of Indian citizens. The Vietnamese government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting those affected, upholding safety standards for tourists, and standing by the families during this difficult time. The speedboat, carrying 36 people including 32 Indian tourists, capsized near Hon May Rut Ngoai Island.
