Vietnam's Lien Khuong Airport to reopen Aug. 19 after upgrades, boosting tourism

Lien Khuong Airport, serving Vietnam's Lam Dong province, is set to resume operations on August 19, 2026, following an extensive five-month renovation of its runway and related facilities. The closure aimed to enhance the airport's infrastructure, and its reopening is anticipated to significantly boost the region's tourism and commercial activities.

Lam Dong provincial authorities have outlined a plan to promote tourism and revive both domestic and international air travel. They have urged airlines to reinstate all current flight routes and increase their operational frequency immediately after the airport's reopening. This initiative seeks to accelerate the recovery of the tourism, trade, and investment markets.

In the initial 90 days post-reopening, the province aims to maintain stable domestic flight connections to major cities like Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Vinh, Hai Phong, and Can Tho. The province also plans to adjust services and increase frequencies on high-demand routes. By the end of 2026, Lam Dong aspires to re-establish or launch one to two new domestic routes and actively promote international connections to South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and other promising markets.

Airlines project that Lien Khuong Airport will operate an average of 36-40 flights daily, serving approximately 6,800 passengers. This represents a substantial increase compared to pre-renovation levels. Specific routes, such as Da Lat-Ho Chi Minh City and Da Lat-Hanoi, are expected to have 7-8 flights per day. International services are also set to resume, with AirAsia planning to restart its Da Lat-Kuala Lumpur route four times a week starting September 2. The province is also in discussions to revive flights from South Korea and Taiwan, and explore new routes to Singapore, Bangkok, China, Japan, and Hong Kong. The airport's reopening is considered crucial for the upcoming Festival Hoa Da Lat (Da Lat Flower Festival) in late 2026.
