Vietnam to Host First National Arm Wrestling Championship

Arm wrestling, a pastime familiar to generations of Vietnamese youth, is set to transition into a formal sport with the upcoming National Arm Wrestling Championship. The inaugural event will take place in Ninh Binh province on June 6 and 7, marking a significant milestone for the sport in Vietnam.

Organized by the Hanoi Entertainment Sports Association and enthusiasts from across the country, the championship aims to provide a structured platform for athletes. Over the years, arm wrestling has gained considerable popularity, with many young people in cities like Ho Chi Minh City taking the initiative to learn refereeing from the International Federation of Armwrestling (IFA) and organizing local competitions.

The tournament will feature approximately 100 competitors vying for titles in both the U21 and professional categories. Unique to the event, athletes will compete in left-hand, right-hand, and overall "all-around" divisions, promising exciting matchups across various weight classes. The championship is supported by the Hanoi Entertainment Sports Association, with Nguyen Huu Hung serving as the Secretary-General and head of the organizing committee.

This national championship represents a pivotal moment, fostering the growth and recognition of arm wrestling as a legitimate sport. The organizers hope this event will inspire further development and participation, solidifying arm wrestling's place in Vietnam's sporting landscape.
