Vietnam's women's volleyball team is set to compete against South Korea in the semifinals of the AVC Cup, following a challenging 2-3 loss to Kazakhstan in their final group B match. This defeat was particularly significant as it ended an eight-year winning streak against Kazakhstan and marked Vietnam's first-ever loss in the history of the AVC Cup.

Kazakhstan secured the top spot in Group B with the victory, while Vietnam finished second. In Group A, South Korea emerged as the group winner after a 3-2 victory over Chinese Taipei, who consequently placed second. This sets up a difficult semifinal clash for Vietnam against a formidable South Korean team.

Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt's Vietnamese squad faces a substantial test against South Korea, a team possessing superior tactical play and more experience gained from participating in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL). While Vietnam achieved notable victories against South Korea in the 2023 Asian Championship and the Asian Games, the current team composition is considerably different.

Many key players from those successful encounters, including Lâm Oanh, Tú Linh, Kiều Trinh, and Nguyễn Thị Trinh, are no longer part of the national team for various reasons. The current squad is undergoing a significant transition, with only Trần Thị Thanh Thúy remaining a prominent figure from the previous winning lineups. Despite these challenges, Vietnam has a chance if they can improve their reception and play with heightened focus and determination. The other semifinal will feature Kazakhstan against Chinese Taipei.
