Vietnam Youth Union Gives Computers and Scholarships to Students in Dong Thap Border Commune

Students at a border-area school in Dong Thap began the new academic year with scholarships, a new computer room and additional support worth 490 million Vietnamese dong.

On September 5, Nguyen Minh Triet, standing secretary of the Central Youth Union and chairman of the Vietnam Student Association, attended the opening ceremony at Tan Ho Co Primary and Lower Secondary School. The school is located in Tan Ho Co commune, a border community in Dong Thap province.

The Central Youth Union presented 25 “Support to School” scholarships, each worth 2 million dong, to students from disadvantaged families. It also handed over a “Computer Room for Children” project valued at 270 million dong. Dong Thap province supported construction of a “Red Scarf House” worth 60 million dong and gave 20 students in difficult circumstances gifts worth 1 million dong each.

After the ceremony, Central Youth Union and local officials broke ground on a “5,000-dong House” to support Nguyen Thi Hong Lam, a student at Dong Thap University. School principal Ngo Tran Bao Thy said the computers, library books and scholarships offered practical support and gave students greater access to technology.

“ The computers, books for the school library and scholarships at the start of the school year are practical support. They give students valuable tools on their path to knowledge and open opportunities to access technology. For students facing hardship, the scholarships also provide motivation to stay in school,” Thy said.
