Vietnamese PM arrives in Russia for ASEAN-Russia summit

Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung arrived in Kazan, Russia, on June 16 to attend the 35th Anniversary Summit of ASEAN-Russia relations. His visit highlights Vietnam's commitment to fostering ties between ASEAN and Russia, positioning the nation as a crucial "bridge" in their partnership.

Vietnam is always one of the most active countries supporting Russia to expand cooperation with ASEAN, while also making many initiatives to promote relations.

Upon arrival, Prime Minister Hung and the Vietnamese delegation were welcomed with local traditions, including the offering of bread and salt. This trip marks Hung's first engagement in Russia as Prime Minister, signifying the importance Vietnam places on its relationship with the country.

Vietnam has consistently supported Russia's expanding cooperation with ASEAN and has initiated several proposals to advance their relationship. The upcoming summit is considered a significant milestone for the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership, aiming to set new cooperation directions and inject fresh momentum into multifaceted, mutually beneficial ties.

Beyond the ASEAN-Russia summit, Prime Minister Hung is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. These discussions are intended to establish working relations in their new capacities, enhance political trust, review existing agreements, and promote comprehensive cooperation. A particular focus will be on energy collaboration, including the implementation of the Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power plant project based on a signed intergovernmental agreement and long-term oil and gas cooperation.
