Vietnamese students review films in German at cultural event

Students at Ho Chi Minh City's German Language Day showcased their linguistic skills by reviewing popular Vietnamese films entirely in German. The event, now in its fifth iteration and held every two years, aims to provide a platform for students and enthusiasts to engage with German language and culture.

I have a passion for the German language. In my opinion, these film introductions express the aspiration of young people to promote culture and foster international exchange.

This year's event introduced a new segment where students presented reviews of Vietnamese movies such as 'Lật Mặt 7: Một điều ước,' 'Mai,' and 'Phở và Piano.' These reviews, written and delivered in German, not only demonstrated the students' language proficiency but also served as a cultural bridge, promoting Vietnam's heritage and values to an international audience, particularly the German-speaking community.

TS Nguyễn Thị Bích Phượng, head of the German Language Department and an organizer, highlighted that these reviews reflect advancements in Vietnam's film industry. She expressed hope that such initiatives would encourage collaboration between Vietnamese and German filmmakers and businesses. German tourist Zama Pitang commented that the reviews offered insights into Vietnamese culture, expressing a desire for more direct film collaborations between the two nations.

Reading these articles, I think I can understand Vietnamese culture to some extent. I hope Vietnamese and German filmmakers can cooperate to produce films, so that people like me can understand the people and culture of Vietnam more deeply.

The event also included German language games, cultural activities, and study abroad consultations. Christopher Scholl, Deputy Consul General of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City, noted the significant increase in German language learners in Vietnam, pointing to growing opportunities in various sectors. The German Language Day continues to serve as a key program for cultural promotion and a connection point between educational institutions and organizations in the city.

German language has seen remarkable development in the past year, with the number of learners increasing rapidly. Besides teaching opportunities, German learners can develop in fields such as healthcare, tourism, and business cooperation.
