Viktor Orbán vacationing in Croatia with former minister and historian

Former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was recently spotted vacationing in the Croatian coastal town of Opatija. He was seen in the company of Antal Rogán, his former intelligence and propaganda minister, and Márija Schmidt, a billionaire historian and ideologue. The trio was photographed walking towards a villa owned by the Schmidt family.

This location holds a degree of familiarity for Orbán, as he had vacationed at the same villa three years earlier. The villa belongs to Ungár Anna, Mária Schmidt's daughter and the sister of opposition politician Péter Ungár. At the time of his previous visit, Schmidt had stated that Orbán was a guest due to their long-standing friendship of 30 years. It was also noted then that the then-prime minister was hosted by individuals whose companies had business dealings with the government.

Witnesses reported that the group entered the villa through a garden gate. Orbán was seen wearing the same T-shirt he wore during a previous trip to the island of Vis in 2024. Flight tracking data indicated that a private Pilatus PC-12 NGX aircraft, registered as OK-BIF and originating from Budapest, landed in Rijeka on Saturday, August 15. This aircraft is reportedly owned by a company linked to the Schmidt-Ungár family. Péter Magyar had previously claimed that Orbán used the same plane for his trip to Croatia in 2025.

When approached for comment by the Hungarian outlet 444.hu regarding Orbán's vacation companions, Fidesz communications director Bertalan Havasi responded, "Regarding Viktor Orbán's private programs – in line with previous practice – we cannot provide information." This marks the second time Orbán's stay at this particular villa has generated public discussion, primarily due to his past association with a family whose businesses have government ties.
