Village head and accomplices detained for land fraud in Kyrgyzstan

Authorities in Kyrgyzstan have detained three individuals, including the head of the Shark village, on suspicion of large-scale land fraud. The arrests followed a complaint from a local resident who claims he was swindled out of a significant sum of money.

According to the Osh region's Internal Affairs Directorate, the resident reported that in January 2024, a land specialist from the Datkin rural administration, along with the village head and another individual, promised to help him secure a land plot in the Achy area. The suspects allegedly gained his trust and received 2,536,000 soms.

However, the promised land was never delivered, and the money has not been returned. Based on the resident's complaint, a criminal case has been initiated under the article "Fraud" of the Criminal Code. All three suspects have been taken into custody while the investigation proceeds.

Investigators are currently examining whether the detained individuals have been involved in other similar fraudulent activities. This case highlights concerns regarding land allocation and potential corruption within local administrations.
