Villarruel's mother suggests Milei siblings are jealous of daughter's influence

The mother of Argentine Vice President Victoria Villarruel has suggested that President Javier Milei and his sister, Karina Milei, may be jealous of her daughter's political influence. Diana de Stefani stated that Villarruel "has a lot of traction" and attracted voters who might not have otherwise supported Milei.

"A lot of people who didn't like Milei's style voted for her," De Stefani remarked, referencing the 2023 electoral campaign. She asserted that Villarruel has acted institutionally and has not taken actions against the president, questioning the source of perceived tensions. De Stefani believes the relationship between Milei and Villarruel cooled after Milei assumed the presidency, attributing the divergence to differing visions: Milei's global perspective versus Villarruel's national focus.

When asked if the president is jealous of Villarruel, De Stefani responded, "I think so. Him or his sister," referring to the Secretary General of the Presidency. She also relayed her daughter's comment that "the sister governs the country."

De Stefani also alleged that her daughter is being spied on, attributing it to "foreign" intervention and describing the current situation in Argentina as "a horror."

Adding to the political intrigue, Villarruel confirmed her attendance at the National Flag Day ceremony in Rosario, a city significant to her family. This move is seen as a challenge, as reports indicate President Milei had initially ordered that Villarruel not be invited to the official event. Her presence, despite not being on the official guest list from the Presidency, remains uncertain regarding protocol and seating arrangements, including whether she will have a place in the presidential box.
