Vintage Fiat 500s lure tourists in Rome, angering taxi drivers

Restored Fiat 500s from the 1960s are becoming an increasingly common sight at tourist hotspots across Rome, where operators use the vintage cars to court visitors willing to pay for a distinctive ride.

The tours take place in open-top models of the traditional “Spiaggina.” According to media reports, a roughly 90-minute trip through Rome’s historic center costs around 250 euros.

The offer has angered taxi drivers. They accuse the vintage-car operators of approaching customers directly in the street, which they say violates the applicable rules.
