Visma rider Sepp Kuss narrowly escaped a serious accident on a Tour de France mountain stage, experiencing two crashes in quick succession. The second fall was particularly harrowing, with only a safety net preventing Kuss from tumbling down a mountainside.

Visma's sports director, Marc Reef, expressed his shock after witnessing the incident. "I saw it again, and it is really scary. It was really good that the net was there," Reef told TV 2 Norge, as reported by TV 2 Sport. "In the car, we just saw a picture, and we didn't see him. We still thought he was ahead of Carapaz, but the next moment he was right in front of our car."

Reef lamented the unfortunate turn of events, highlighting Kuss's strong performance prior to the crashes. "He and the team did everything we could to put him in the best position. He showed that he was the strongest up front. It is hard to handle," he added.

Despite the dramatic incidents, Kuss managed to secure third place on the stage. Richard Carapaz claimed victory, with Remco Evenepoel finishing second. The Tour de France is set to conclude on Sunday.
