Vlaams Belang local branch in Bree dissolved amid internal disputes

The local chapter of the Flemish nationalist party Vlaams Belang in Bree has been dissolved, effective immediately, by provincial chair Annick Ponthier. The decision stems from internal conflicts and tensions that have rendered constructive cooperation impossible, according to Ponthier.

Tony Serrani, who was instrumental in establishing the Bree branch 14 years ago, learned of the dissolution via email and expressed profound disappointment. He described the situation as a disregard for years of dedicated work, stating, "All that work is now simply thrown in the trash by higher-ups."

Serrani confirmed that internal conflicts, particularly disagreements and "cronyism," were the root cause. He indicated that tensions escalated after the previous chair resigned in March. "Wrong decisions are being made, and I am not being listened to. People who get along very well within the party are kept close, while others are excluded. Self-interest is apparently more important than the general interest. Is that cronyism? In my eyes, yes," he stated.

Despite the dissolution, the party's two seats on the municipal council will remain. It is currently unclear whether a new Vlaams Belang branch will be formed in Bree in the future, or what will happen with the council seats held by Stefan Lemmens and Ann Luyten, who were not immediately available for comment.

Serrani has declared he is severing ties with Vlaams Belang, citing similar issues in other local branches. He plans to establish his own political party in the future, focused on prioritizing the general interest.
