Vojvoda, the 'Institutional' Coach Losing Credit at Milito's Struggling Racing

Diego Milito promised Racing a better future than present. The club's latest defeat has instead forced that promise into a harsh reality, as supporters again insulted the president at the Cilindro de Avellaneda.

The loss was Racing's fifth in eight Clausura matches and left Juan Pablo Vojvoda's team at the bottom of Group B with five points. Racing has now gone seven league games without a victory, winning only against Gimnasia in the opening round. It also fell to 24th in the annual table, with 26 points from 24 matches.

Vojvoda, whom Milito dubbed the club's "institutional" coach, was asked about his future for the first time. "I do not set deadlines, but I accept reality," he said. Later, he insisted he would not surrender to the crisis: "The outlook is bleak, but I rebel against that reality. I am not going to lie down. We have to get back up."

Racing's decline is both statistical and visible on the field. The team has conceded 13 goals in the Clausura and kept only one clean sheet, against Rosario Central in the second round. It has scored just seven times in eight matches, with Duván Vergara the only forward to score in the tournament. Adrián Martínez and Tomás Conechny have scored in the Copa Argentina.

Racing's remaining route toward next year's international competitions may run through the Copa Argentina, where it faces Boca in the quarterfinals on Sept. 27. But the team's defensive instability and difficulty scoring have made even that path uncertain.
