Volkswagen reveals new pickup truck design, arriving in Argentina in 2027

Volkswagen has unveiled the definitive exterior design of its upcoming compact pickup truck, the Tukan, which will be manufactured in Brazil and is slated for release in Argentina in 2027. The vehicle was showcased at the Barretos Festival, an agricultural sector event in Brazil.

The Tukan will be offered in two configurations: the Robust, featuring a single cab and a larger cargo bed for work-oriented use, and the Extreme, a double-cab version positioned at the higher end of the range. Design highlights include elevated front headlights with LED lighting from the base model, protective plastic cladding, and a distinctive honeycomb grille. The double-cab variant will have a black molding connecting the taillights, a feature absent in the single-cab model.

This new pickup marks Volkswagen's first to be developed on the modular MQB platform, shared with models like the Polo and T-Cross. While the T-Cross served as a technical basis, the architecture has undergone specific modifications, including an extended wheelbase, to accommodate the cargo bed. All versions will utilize a leaf-spring rear suspension system designed for heavy loads.

Designed and engineered in South America, the Tukan will be produced at Volkswagen's São José dos Pinhais plant in Paraná, Brazil, with 76% of its components sourced regionally. Prototypes have completed over two million kilometers of testing, with user feedback leading to improvements in dust protection for the air intake and air conditioning cooling capacity. The Tukan will be positioned between the Saveiro and the new Amarok in Volkswagen's South American product strategy.
