Voters go to polls in northern Manitoba byelection in The Pas-Kameesak

Residents of northern Manitoba are casting their ballots today in a provincial byelection for the riding of The Pas-Kameesak. The election follows the death of New Democratic Party (NDP) member Amanda Lathlin in March, creating a vacancy in the provincial legislature.

Four candidates are vying for the seat. Jennifer Flett is representing the NDP, while Edna Nabess is running for the Progressive Conservatives. The Manitoba Liberal Party has put forward Dan Quesnel as their candidate. Additionally, former Progressive Conservative leadership contender Wally Daudrich is participating in the race under the banner of the Keystone Party.

Daudrich's inclusion in the Keystone Party came after the Progressive Conservatives blocked his candidacy for their party in the upcoming general election in the Turtle Mountain riding. The current composition of the Manitoba legislature sees the governing NDP holding 33 seats, the PCs with 20, the Liberals with one, and two seats held by independent members.
