Vozandes International Summit puts patients at the center of healthcare

Behind every diagnosis, Ximena Pacheco says, there is a person, a history and a family, not merely a disease. That conviction shapes the II Vozandes International Summit, where the patient takes center stage in a healthcare system changing rapidly through artificial intelligence, robotics and data analysis.

The summit takes place in Quito on September 3 and 4, 2026. Hospital Vozandes Quito and the Bruckner Academy organized the meeting, which brings together specialists from Ecuador and abroad to discuss the sector’s transformation.

The agenda goes beyond new equipment, procedures and digital systems. It also addresses patient safety, clinical quality, sustainability and the humanization of care. Pacheco, the hospital’s CEO, says medicine needs to “return to its first love,” recovering the vocation that draws health professionals to care for others.

Specialization and technology have produced major advances, but they can also narrow attention to the illness itself. “We have to treat not only the physical disease, but also the emotional and spiritual parts,” Pacheco said. She argues that comprehensive care can include simple actions, such as a doctor looking at a patient while speaking, understanding the patient’s concerns and explaining a procedure clearly.

The summit presents technology as a tool that should support, rather than compete with, that relationship. Its discussion of artificial intelligence includes the role of Argentine physician and health-informatics specialist Hernán Navas, who works at the intersection of medicine and information systems.
