Vozinha cannot use nickname on Colo Colo jersey due to league rules

Colo Colo's new signing, goalkeeper Josimar José Évora Dias, widely known as Vozinha, faces an unusual hurdle in his upcoming stint with the Chilean club: a league regulation prohibits the use of nicknames on jerseys. This rule, stipulated in Article 36° of the ANFP's First Division regulations, mandates players to display their surname or the initial of their first name, with specific restrictions on jersey numbers.

Vozinha, who captured global attention with his standout performances for Cape Verde in the 2026 World Cup, will likely have to wear "Dias", his surname, on his jersey. The club is reportedly exploring options to seek a change in the regulations through the Council of Presidents to allow the use of his iconic nickname.

The ANFP's rules are strict regarding player identification and jersey numbers. Article 36° outlines penalties for non-compliance, including yellow cards and fines for the club. Furthermore, a separate appendix clarifies that the number one jersey is exclusively for goalkeepers, while numbers 2 through 11 are reserved for field players.

Vozinha has signed an 18-month contract with Colo Colo, reportedly earning approximately 47 million Chilean pesos per month. The Chilean club is currently enjoying a dominant run, leading the 2026 league table with 39 points after 16 matches, a 12-point lead over their closest rivals. Vozinha's arrival marks a significant addition as the team aims to maintain its strong performance.
