VTV8 Designated Vietnam's National Channel for Culture, Heritage, History, and Tourism

VTV8 is set to become Vietnam's dedicated national television channel focused on culture, heritage, history, and tourism, following a recent license from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. The channel's mission is to disseminate and promote the values and beauty of Vietnam's culture, heritage, and tourism, while also educating audiences on national and global historical narratives.

Operating 24 hours a day, VTV8 will serve audiences across Vietnam and the Vietnamese diaspora abroad. The channel's content will revolve around four main pillars: culture, heritage, history, and tourism. To achieve its goals, VTV8 is developing several new program formats, including "Phong vị biên niên," "Trường Sơn vạn dặm," "Dấu ấn lịch sử," "Khế ước thời gian," "Nông sản kể chuyện," and "Kết nối VTV8."

These programs are designed with a multi-layered storytelling approach, blending information with engaging experiences. The documentary segment will receive significant investment, with plans for bilingual versions to expand its international accessibility. While prioritizing original content for its broadcast and digital platforms, VTV8 will also maintain a schedule of news bulletins, science, education, and entertainment programs.

This strategic shift aims to create a fresh identity for VTV8, integrating current affairs with rich cultural and historical knowledge. The diverse formats are intended to fulfill the channel's political mandates while simultaneously meeting the public's demand for quality entertainment and educational content. Nguyễn Thanh Lâm, Director General of Vietnam Television, is overseeing the content strategy for VTV8.
