Vučić in Niš Promises a More Convincing SNS Victory

Aleksandar Vučić arrived in Niš in a formal suit and promised that the Serbian Progressive Party would win the next local contest more convincingly than it did the last one.

“We will defeat them in Niš. Last time we barely won, now we will win more convincingly. Wait a month and a half, and you will see the results,” Vučić said. He was visiting the final reconstruction works at the Science and Technology Park and the site planned for a new gynecology and obstetrics building at the Niš University Clinical Center.

The SNS main board was due to meet in Niš. Vučić said he had dressed formally for the occasion and would enter through the main entrance. He also said he had heard that students opposing his visit had prepared eggs to throw at him.

Student groups had called a rally before the meeting. Vučić said protesters would stop 500 meters from the venue and accused them of using what he called “the dirtiest tricks,” including putting a child forward and handing a rose to a police officer. He also referred to some protesters attending a gay parade.

Vučić said people were tired of the protests and claimed that dozens of so-called blockaders were joining the SNS every day after sincerely repenting. He portrayed the upcoming contest as a democratic competition and said the party would produce a stronger result in Niš.
