Vučić's balancing act is a deception, pushing Serbia into Russia's influence, says LSV official

Aleksandar Olenik, vice-president of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV), has sharply criticized Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić's foreign policy, labeling the purported policy of balancing and military neutrality as a "deception." Olenik asserts that the current government is systematically guiding Serbia towards Russia's sphere of influence.

"The ultimate and most important political goal of this government is that Serbia never becomes a member of the European Union and NATO, but rather permanently returns under the direct influence of Russia," Olenik stated. He characterized the policy of "sitting on four chairs" as a transparent tactic for buying time and engaging in populism. Olenik contends that while Vučić pays lip service to the European path, he actively obstructs reforms, suppresses media freedom, and undermines democratic institutions, thereby distancing Serbia from European standards.

According to Olenik, this "dangerous game" aims to await a geopolitical shift and the arrival of "Russians on the Danube." He warned that Serbia's "irresponsible policy" leads to missed historical opportunities, economic and security vulnerability, and political isolation. Olenik concluded by demanding an "urgent and clear turn towards full Euro-Atlantic integration," presenting it as the sole guarantee for peace, security, and economic prosperity for all Serbian citizens.
