Vukovar Film Festival approaches with a program of acclaimed films and premieres

Vukovar will turn its attention to cinema from September 2 to 5, when the city hosts the 20th edition of the Vukovar Film Festival.

The anniversary program combines award-winning films from major international festivals with Croatian premieres, special screenings and titles intended for a broad audience. The festival will open with Pawel Pawlikowski’s “The Inheritance,” starring Sandra Hüller and recognized for best direction at Cannes.

Other featured films include Andrey Zvyagintsev’s “Minotaur,” winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes, and Serge Ioan Celebidachi’s “The Yellow Tie,” starring Sean Bean, Miranda Richardson and John Malkovich. The latter will receive its Croatian premiere in Vukovar.

The opening ceremony will be broadcast live by Croatian Radiotelevision from the grounds of Eltz Castle. The anniversary edition also brings a partnership with the Sarajevo Film Festival through the “Heart of Sarajevo in Vukovar” program, alongside continuing cooperation with the Days of Croatian Film Ivo Gregurević in Orašje and the Children’s VFF.

The festival presents itself as more than a series of screenings. For several days, Vukovar will host filmmakers, industry professionals and audiences from Croatia and abroad, reinforcing the event’s cultural, tourism and promotional role for the city.
