WAEC Extends 2026 GCE Registration Deadline to August 28

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Nigeria has granted prospective candidates additional time to register for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, Second Series, commonly known as the WAEC GCE. The registration deadline has been officially extended to Friday, August 28, 2026.

This extension provides a crucial window for individuals who did not enroll in regular secondary schools to register for the examination. The WAEC GCE offers a pathway for those seeking to obtain or improve their Ordinary Level results independently. The council announced the extension via its X handle on Saturday, urging interested candidates to utilize the extra time to complete their registration process.

The examination format for this series will be entirely Computer-Based (CBE). The registration fee remains set at N37,000. Candidates are advised to confirm the availability of examination towns at their nearest WAEC office before finalizing their registration. The examination itself is slated to take place between September and October 2026.

This latest extension supersedes the previous deadline of July 31, 2026. Registration for the examination initially opened on May 4, 2026. The council's decision aims to accommodate more candidates who may still wish to participate in this examination cycle.
